Kiran Soemardjo
Violinist
Hello! I’m Kiran, a senior at Stuyvesant High School in New York City. I’ve been playing the violin since I was four years old and currently study with Jose M. Pietri-Coimbre at Third Street Music School, where I perform in the Chamber Music Ensemble and Philharmonia String Orchestra. Over the years, I’ve worked with inspiring teachers and participated in summer music programs across the U.S., Canada, and Italy — experiences that have deepened my love for chamber music and the collaboration it fosters.
I really enjoy chamber music because it’s about working together — listening, balancing, and creating something as a group. Outside of music, I’m drawn to math and baking, which, in their own ways, mirror what I love about playing the violin: the mix of structure, creativity, and quiet focus that come together to transform small details into something harmonious and expressive. My family values different cultures and perspectives, and that’s shaped how I approach learning — with curiosity, patience, and an open mind, both in music and in life.
